Before the Ring and Proposal
When Megan moved back to Connecticut from Hawaii in 2010, her best friend Jill introduced her to Mike, who Megan thought was cute. Mike asked her out and they began dating. Mike proposed to Megan on December 30, 2015 while on vacation in Hawaii after Megan graduated from nursing school. A couple days into the trip, the couple took a hike up to Diamond Head, and when they reached the top, they asked  a random tourist to take their photo. As Megan was smiling for the photo, Mike dropped to one knee and proposed.

Block Island Because……
Megan and Mike chose Block Island because over the years it has become their favorite summer getaway destination, visiting frequently every summer. Mike has been visiting the island with his family and cousins since he was a little kid. The pair wanted an unforgettable wedding that would create a whole weekend experience for their guests in a place that they feel has its own unique charm that makes you feel like you are worlds away from home.

The Day and Design
Megan started the day getting ready with her bridesmaids and mom before heading to the first look with Mike at the Southeast Lighthouse. The ceremony at The Sullivan House was overlooking the Great Salt Pond, and Megan’s brother was the officiant, which made it even more special for the couple. When the ceremony was over and they had their first kiss as Mr. & Mrs., the boaters in the Great Salt Pond sounded their airhorns. The reception under the tent provided great food, fun music, and a spectacular sunset to be remembered by everyone. The wedding definitely had everyone feeling the island vibes, and was really special for Megan and Mike — being on the island surrounded by their family and friends.

The Wedding Weekend
Megan and Mike made a wedding website that had all of the weekend information, including transportation and accommodations. They also reserved blocks of rooms for guests at The National Hotel and the Haborside Inn. To kick off the weekend, Megan and Mike hosted a beach bonfire at Ballard’s — drinks and s’mores made for a fun start to the wedding weekend. The rehearsal dinner was held at the Hotel Manisses on Friday evening before the big day. After the wedding reception, the couple had a post wedding party at Captain Nick’s, renting the top floor and had pizza delivered by Poor Peoples Pub.

Top 3 pieces of advice:

1.     Plan an after-wedding party to continue the celebration.
2.     Send save-the-dates early to allow your guests to plan ahead and start making reservations.
3.     Build a wedding website and/or make a weekend itinerary to include in a welcome bag. This is a great way to let your guests know weekend events.
